Relationships can get stuck

Relationships are the heart of life. We are born into them and we grow within them. They help us become ourselves in the world. But relationships are also complex and complicated. They can develop in confusing, conflictual and stressful ways. If this happens therapy can provide help to open up new possibilities.

Blocks to connection

  • Over-apologizing, people-pleasing, or avoiding conflict

  • Withdrawing or isolating instead of talking
  • Trouble setting limits or tolerating others’ limits

  • Communication breakdowns in co-parenting or family roles

  • Difficulty expressing needs without shutting down or exploding

  • Misunderstanding social cues or tone

  • Difficulty repairing after hurting someone’s feelings
  • Fear of saying the “wrong” thing and getting embarrassed
  • Trouble describing internal states (confused, scared, frustrated)
  • Child: Conflicts with peers around sharing, fairness, and play

Change happens in conversation

Finding words to speak is part of what helps us feel better.  Adults and older children can talk to understand and grow their thinking. Younger children tend to express there struggles through play which the therapist can help them with.

Understand to resolve and grow

It’s natural to run into relationship struggles. Being curious about what goes on in a relationship can open the way to new thoughts, perspectives and understandings.  The goal of therapy for children, teens, and adults of all ages, is to clear the things that prevent free access to growth and personal development.
